chained_bear commented on the word neck sweats
"What really got Morris's heart pumping, however... was what he found in the rear of the stall: Dan Patch's tack trunk. The box, which bore the horse's name in fancy, faded letters, was sitting on the dirt floor, open and surrounded by a brush, a currycomb, leg wraps, girth straps, and a bottle of Humphrey's lineament. Inside the box were neck sweats (homemade-looking gingham hoods that Dan wore when cooling down after a race or workout), a pump for inflating sulky tires, and a copy of Western Horseman magazine dated September 24, 1900. 'When Bob Glaspie saw that tack trunk,' John said with a wink, 'he fell on his knees and rubbed it like it was a twenty-year-old woman.'"
